Taming the blue LED on the Art DJ Pre II

Main Post:

Hi guys,

I came up with a unique solution to tame the blue LED on the front of the ART DJ Pre II and thought I would share. I think everyone who reads this sub already knows, but the Art DJ Pre II is a fantastic little preamp that can regularly be found for around $30. Irrespective of your opinions on the preamp, the blue power LED on the front is blindingly bright (to the point of being obnoxious). Most people solve this problem with a piece of tape or some nail polish.

While effective, both of those methods only serve to dim the light or alter its color. So I tried to come up with a creative solution that would retain the look of the preamp, while completely blocking the blue LED. What I came up with is a little bit unorthodox. I ended up using an M5 prop nut from a quadrotor. Here's a link to the hardware I chose. From an ebay seller, I paid something like $3 total. Shipping took a couple of weeks, but no biggie. I just put a little glue inside the cap nut and popped it right over the LED.

OK, so what does the thing look like? Here's a shot of the finished product (bonus peek at by SYS). I took the photo with my iPhone, but it gets the point across. In my opinion, it looks about a million times better than the frog tape I was using to cover the light previously. It blocks the LED completely, and cost less than $5 total. Super simple, very little effort or thought involved. I think it looks pretty sharp too.

Note: The LED itself is 5mm in diameter, and the cap nut I used was M5, meaning the inner diameter of the nut was also 5mm. The fit was just a hair tight, so I bored out the threads with a drill bit and a pair of vise grips. Took 60 seconds, was no problem. But if you want to try this, you might consider looking for an M6 cap nut. Hell, the things are so cheap you could buy both and use whichever one you liked best.

Happy listening!

Nice, I also hated the extremely bright LED so I just opened the thing, put a layer of black electrical over the LED and reassembled it.

This also gives a pretty clean look.

Song: Blue Bills by DJ Scheme

Main Post:

Okay my friends and I have been trying to figure it out so please help. The first minute of this song kind of sounds like a song that would be in clubs between 2000-2010 but we can’t figure out who the rapper was or what song, someone help. I think the thing that connects them is the echo voice in the background, but we can’t figure it out.

Are the blue and black Ortofon Pro S styluses interchangeable on the blue cartridge?

Main Post:

Hi everyone! I've been using the Ortofon DJ S Concorde styluses and cartridges (the blue ones) for a couple years now and am a big fan. I need to replace my styluses and don't have enough to shell for fresh blues right now; does anyone know if I can get a set of the cheaper black ones and use them with my blue cartridges?

Please and thanx!

Direct from Ortofon's own website:

http://www.ortofon.com/dj/products/dj-replacement-styli

Physically each series of stylus, except for S-120, will fit on alternate cartridge bodies. However, these combinations are not supported by Ortofon, as each cartridge series is designed with a synergistic combination in mind - that is, each stylus is made to compliment the magnet and coil configuration of each cartridge body. For instance, using a DigiTrack stylus with a Scratch body will not provide the full benefit of either product, and might even provide undesired results, including (but not limited to) differences in output, unbalanced sound reproduction, etc.

Note: In the case of the NightClub (mkI, MkII) and DJ series cartridges, it is perfectly alright to use the respective S (spherical) or E (elliptical) version stylus. The cartridge bodies are designed to accommodate either of the respective series' stylus types.

TLDR: You can, but you shouldn't.
